The Moment

The publication of the Bitcoin whitepaper is the culmination of cryptographic research spanning decades. A practical solution to the Byzantine generals problem has unleashed a whole industry. Rarely a simple and elegant paper (and subsequent code) such as the “Bitcoin; Peer-to-peer electronic cash system”, resulted in such enormous value creation. The praying hands symbolize the trust element. We trust the code more than we trust the central bankers. However there is still an element of trust about the cryptography of the system and code not being buggy and miners not colluding. After all, it’s all about probability! We believe, but also pray a bit!
